May Meeting 2016--Our last meeting for the season.
Joann Loebel gave us a wonderful presentation on bulbs through the seasons. Her slide show had many examples of various types of bulbs, and displays of beatiful gardens with combinations of flowers as well as color combinations that were spectacular. One bulb that was particuarly enchanting was the Allium Schubertii or "Starburst". Not only was the large round flower beautiful, but the seed pod left behind was also extremely interesting to see, and could be dried and hung upside down then painted for a beautiful effect indoors. Another fact that was helpful to know is that after bulbs bloom, they really only need the leaves that are left behind for 6 weeks--in order to replenish the plant. Good to know that we don't have to suffer with unsightly leaves longer than that.
