In 2021 GGGC won most creative tree
Grayslake Historical Society Annual Holiday Giving Tree Exhibit.
The historical society hosts this festive display of trees annually, which are decorated by local non-profits. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite tree and donations are split between the organization and the historical society.
GGGC enters a tree each year and it turned out that we won in two categories....Most Popular and Most Creative in 2018. In 2019 we won the "MostPopular" again.
In 2020 there was no competition due to the pandemic. 2021 we won " Most Creative Tree":
Community Spring Plant Sale
We have our Annual Plant Sale and Garden Items Table Location is downtown Grayslake next to the Village Hall. Homegrown perennials, annuals, herbs and other plants (including several species of heirloom tomatoes started from seeds) are donated by members. The plant sale is an important fund raiser for the club, and allows us to fund various local philanthropic projects.
This year the Plant Sale was May 21, 2022 with a possible second plant sale this Fall.
Horticulture
Our Horticulture Committee works with the Library Lane senior residents & the Grayslake Senior Center to plant & maintain their flower containers and in-ground beds around the building, and also decorate for Christmas. The residents help with the dead-heading and watering during the summer season as they are able. There are also monthly Garden Therapy craft projects (which was on-hold for 2021 and part of 2022), with the residents. A fun activity for everyone involved.
Dance Recital Fund Raiser (No dance recital this year 2023) (
Every year the club prepares bouquets for the Grayslake Park District's annual dance recital, which is held at the Grayslake High School. As a convenience for parents, and a fundraiser for the club, club members assemble and distribute bouquets of pre-ordered flowers for the parents to present to the children in the recital. Julie Prentiss coordinates this project. Funds raised from this event go toward the club's community projects and club expenses. This is held every May around Mother's Day. (postponed for 2021 and 2022)
